Align Your Security with NIST Frameworks
Build a measurable cybersecurity programme with NIST CSF 2.0, SP 800-53 and SP 800-171 expertise: gap assessment, control implementation, policies and audit-ready evidence.
Cybersecurity Framework
US standards body guidance for managing and reducing cyber risk.
What Is NIST Compliance?
Aligning your security controls with frameworks from the US National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Who Needs It?
US government contractors, IT and cloud providers, and organisations serving US clients or wanting a recognised security baseline.
Why It Matters?
NIST is a common baseline in US contracts and gives you a structured, risk-based way to run security.
What is NIST compliance?
NIST compliance means aligning your cybersecurity controls with frameworks published by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology, mainly the Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0, SP 800-53 and SP 800-171. NIST does not issue certificates, so compliance is shown through documented controls, assessments and evidence.
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Gain Certification, GurugramUnderstanding NIST Compliance
NIST publishes some of the most widely used cybersecurity guidance in the world. The Cybersecurity Framework gives a flexible, risk-based structure, while Special Publications such as SP 800-53 and SP 800-171 set out detailed controls for protecting systems and sensitive information.
Because NIST frameworks are not certifications, organisations demonstrate alignment through documented risk assessments, implemented controls and evidence. The right framework depends on who you serve: CSF for a general security programme, 800-171 when handling controlled unclassified information, and 800-53 for federal-grade controls.

Who Should Align with NIST
NIST alignment is most commonly sought by:
- US federal and defence supply-chain contractors
- IT services, SaaS and cloud providers serving US clients
- Managed security and data-processing companies
- Critical infrastructure and healthcare technology firms
- Organisations building a risk-based security programme from scratch
Key Benefits of NIST Compliance
NIST alignment gives you a structured, measurable security programme, makes it easier to answer US customer and contract requirements, and maps well to ISO 27001 and SOC 2, so one set of controls can support several assurance needs.
NIST CSF vs SP 800-53 vs SP 800-171
| Aspect | CSF 2.0 | SP 800-53 | SP 800-171 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Flexible cyber risk framework | Detailed security and privacy control catalogue | Protect controlled unclassified information (CUI) |
| Audience | Any organisation | US federal systems and contractors | Non-federal organisations handling CUI |
| Style | Outcome-based | Prescriptive controls | Prescriptive requirements |

NIST Compliance — FAQs
No. NIST does not certify organisations. Compliance or alignment is demonstrated through documented controls, assessments and evidence against the chosen framework.
ISO 27001 is a certifiable information security management standard. NIST CSF is a voluntary framework for managing cyber risk. They map well to each other, and many organisations use both.
Not by Indian law. It is usually driven by US customers or contracts, for example SP 800-171 when handling controlled unclassified information for US government supply chains.
Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond and Recover. Govern was added in version 2.0, released in February 2024.
CSF 2.0 suits most organisations building a security programme. SP 800-171 applies when handling controlled unclassified information, and SP 800-53 is used for federal-grade control requirements.
Often 2 to 6 months, depending on the framework chosen, the size of your environment and how mature your existing controls are.
